Moments from vacation #3.

So, essentially, I convinced Paul to take me and Caleb to Legoland when it became apparent that we would not be allowed* on my extended family's cruise to Alaska, which took place last week. One night last spring while Paul was at mutual, Caleb and I perused Disneyland's and Legoland's websites, thus resulting in the boy's deep and abiding interest in Legoland**.

Paul was hesitant to go since I wouldn't be able to go on (m)any rides, but I wasn't really that concerned. In fact, I remained unconcerned about this until I realized this important piece of data: if the boys were going on rides while I lounged in the shade and read, how would we get pictures of the three of us together on vacation?? Clearly a crucial dilemma.

But it was a crucial dilemma I tried hard to solve by going with my boys on a total of three rides. One of those was a water ride, so I did not bring the camera. On another of those rides I elected Caleb to be the photographer, resulting in this fine shot of Paul and me:

On the third of those rides we went on together (which was actually the first), I made some poor attempts at casual self-portraiture, resulting in the following:
Who could possibly be taking this picture? What? Me? Why, no! Can't you see that I'm not even aware that a photo is being taken by the way I'm looking in the opposite direction? La de dah...

Caleb's hair, Paul, clearly nervous to embark on the sky cruiser, and me, joyously sporting a 'do that looks a little polygamous from the side. Nice. My failure to capture a charming photo of the three of us on the first day convinced me to stop trying. Blessedly. (Mostly because I was afraid that more pictures would serve only as further damning evidence that I indeed have some kind of freaky neck/chin hybrid, which thing is an abomination.)

Ah, well. I guess posterity will just have to believe that I actually attended the trip based on the 450 pictures that we (mostly I) took over the course of six days.

*Just to be clear, we weren't allowed by the cruise line because of my exceedingly "advanced" pregnancy (no pregnant women beyond 24 weeks!). My family would have welcomed us. (Or so they say...)

**Which, really, is just to be expected, I think. What's at Legoland, after all? Legos! What's at Disneyland? Um... Disney? (And recall Caleb's unfamiliarity with Donald Duck. That extends to, for example, all Disney princesses and, in fact, all Disney movies outside of the Pixar realm.)

  1. Paul looks apprehensive in the trio photo...hmmm afraid of the ride? Thinking of some solution to a programming problem? Gas?

Glad you guys had fun...MORE PICTURES!

  2. polygamous hairdos and chin/neck hybrid! HA!!! You are so funny! What about a picture of the reason for the cruise rejection? I can't wait to hear your always hilarious commentary about that! (Perhaps you inherited the chin/neck hybrid from "Lupita"?)
