Bike riding yesterday. |
Because I am the nicest mother in the whole world, I told him he could ride his bike to the cul-de-sac where I was dropping off some cookies, and then we'd put his bike in the van and head over to the grandparents.
Minutes later, I was getting back into the van wondering where Caleb was. I was almost nervous, but since I was quite literally thirty seconds away from our house and he knew where we were going, I didn't think he could possibly be lost. And lo and behold, there he was: waiting at the stop sign at the mouth of the cul-de-sac with the bishop's 14-year-old daughter. She was clearly waiting with him, but when I said "hi" to her, she smiled and went home.
Caleb cleared things up. Apparently, he'd misunderstood which cul-de-sac we were heading to, and when he turned the corner, he couldn't see the van any longer. By the time he got to the bishop's house (three houses after the corner), he decided he was lost*. Given his situation, he got off his bike, knelt down, and prayed right there.
Fortuitously, the bishop's family was arriving home just as Caleb was finishing his prayer that I would come find him. The sweet daughter volunteered to help him and walked him the 100 yards to the cul-de-sac where we met.
I love that boy. I love that when he doesn't know what else to do, he prays. :)
*This is funny because it takes under two minutes to walk to the bishop's house from our house, and Caleb has done just that--by himself--more than once.
What a good boy. I love him.
ReplyDeleteI love catching up on your blog. Melissa - you should write a book. I love reading your words - it's like you're right there in the room telling me. Marcus and I laugh out loud, often, whenever I catch up on your posts. I loved this post b/c Ellie does the same thing and it is so neat to witness. It's really sweet to see your child pray so quickly and so earnestly, so often for simple things we adults take for granted. I'm glad he was okay and the Bishop's arrival certainly answered his little prayer, no doubt! I love that God really does answer the prayer of a child so quickly... maybe so they learn to rely on Him when they get older and have to work a bit harder sometimes? (and sometimes not!) Yesterday Ellie told me a usually enthusiastic and happy boy in her class was not himself, was losing his voice, and was getting sick. She prayed in every prayer for him. Tonight she told me he came back to school today happy and with his voice back. I told her I thought her prayer was answered. She said "Yeah, I prayed over and over for him at school all day yesterday and hoped he'd be okay. Then today he was happy and back to his normal self and his voice was back! He was feeling better!"
ReplyDeleteIt was really cute. There is so much that these sweet kids teach and show us, I just love it. Thanks for sharing and hugs to Caleb and your fam!
