I'm looking forward to weaning Cecily. I know that breastfeeding is one of the singular delights of womanhood and all, but I don't think men are missing out on anything. My baby routinely kicks me in the face while nursing, yanks my hair, and has recently taken to standing up (bent over, grabbing onto my face/hair/shirt/teeth for support) while latched on. With her eight teeth, it's just as comfortable as it sounds. At nearly 11 months old, she's still never consented to a bottle, or a sippy cup, or a regular cup. So in a month or so when I've reached my limit, she's going to be thirsty.

Mischievous face. |
Agreed. Nursing has never struck me as the delight everyone says it is. I was never sad to wean a child. But, oh, that darling face!
ReplyDeleteMy sister Emily would love reading this post. She absolutely HATES breastfeeding. It is so demanding of a mother. I am constantly worrying about my milk supply and am currently in the mode of pumping every 2.5 hours to try to increase it. But at the same time I know I am blessed to be able to do it because I know some people who are heartbroken that they couldn't nurse. It is a hard thing though and I think that many more moms feel that way than would admit it.
ReplyDeleteI've got six months to go and I'm already looking forward to it. And I don't have a baby that tries to stand while nursing. :)
