Winning.

We are a family of champions. Observe:

Soccer season has gotten off to a surprising start. So far we've played only two of five scheduled games, thanks to the fabulous spring (read: fickle) weather we've been having. That's not the surprising part. The surprising part is this: after frolicking through each and every of his soccer games last season*, Caleb has scored not one, but two goals in both games so far. Dude. In order to best appreciate that accomplishment, consider briefly my and Paul's athletic accomplishments over our combined 64 years. Hmm.... Did you hear those crickets chirp? Yeah. QED: Go Caleb!!

He also read the word "subsequent" the other day without hesitation. Kindergarten? Bring it.

Cecily has mastered the fundamental art of rolling: yes, front to back and that elusive back to front. Additionally, she has cut a tooth (last week), and taught herself to blow raspberries (last Monday). You may wonder how I'm doing in the face of all this progress. The answer is: damp.

Do you have a finger I can chew on?
I think she's a beautiful child.

Paul, after a short five years, may officially be called Master. And, clearly, there is little reason for getting a masters degree if you don't walk (seriously). So he did.

Also, lest you think he went out without a bang, he won a Prestigious Award, namely: the linguistics department's Thesis of the Year. (That may not be what it says on the plaque, but that's what it means.) Please don't ask how many theses were in contention. That would be insensitive. (But the answer is still: more than two.)

I am a champion for making awesome Easter clothing for my children. Look how pleased they were:

Do we look like those children on The Sound of Music in those clothes made from curtains? Oh, the shame. We can't even bear to look at you.

Fine. We'll look at you. Not much better, is it.

Of course, there's still an impressive amount of frolicking occurring on the field. The difference is that every once in a while, he realizes, "Hey! The reason we're all wearing matching uniforms and running around out here is that we're playing soccer!" and he scores.

  1. Cecily is a beautiful child, and Caleb is handsome. They both get their good looks from their gorgeous parents!

Thanks for the pictures of the Master's graduation. Congratulations Paul! You make your mama proud.

The Easter clothes are so sweet! Nice work, Melissa.

I love your posts, they always make me smile.

  2. This entry is one of the most hilarious of all time! Sound of Music curtain clothes (much, much cuter, though), frolicking, 64 combined years...only missing a reference to the College of Champions you once attended. And way to go Paul. That is so awesome.

  3. Hey, Caleb's uncle Ben was pretty darn good on the soccer field. Maybe Caleb will be able to boast the same talent! Your children's Easter clothing looks awesome. I wish I had any aptitude for sewing. I keep seeing all these darling things people are making for their homes and families and then I think, where can I BUY something like that. :) But it's never as cute as homemade.
